Staff Picks: Storie's Favorite Ciders Right Now (6-Pack)

My autumn staff picks include a mix of ciders from all over the U.S. that I've particularly enjoyed recently. I find each of these to be well-balanced ciders that generally pair well with rich foods that I lean towards in the fall season.

Pssst: The 12-bottle bundle includes both my picks and Erik's current staff picks and comes at an even bigger discount (basically a free cider if you buy both bundles).Ā

1. Albemarle CiderWorks (VA), Jupiterā€™s Legacy (750 mL)Ā - A flagship cider from Albemarle, named in honor of of the enslaved man, Jupiter Evans, and the role he played in cidermaking at the Monticello plantation. This semi-dry cider has lovely notes of baked apple, orange peel, and a faint earthiness that I find perfectly suited for autumn. Great acidity balanced by medium leathery tannins.Ā

2. Bauman's Cider (OR), Porters Perfection (750 mL) - I adore the Porters Perfection apple, and it makes a great cider, this one included. This cider is dry with tiny bubbles and complex aromas. Notes of apple sauce, sawdust, Meyer lemon, and blackberry. With medium plus acidity and tannins, this cider pairs well with rich foods such as roasted duck.

3. Botanist & Barrel (NC), Pink is a Feeling RosƩ (750 mL) - With its gorgeous fuchsia color and aromas of strawberry jam, rose, and pastry dough, I loved this cider before I even tasted it. Dry with balanced acidity and tannins, and notes of rosehips, rose petals, and raspberry. I love this with lamb chops or vanilla desserts.

4. Idol Cider House (OR), Oregon Bittersweet Cider (16 oz)- One of my favorite ciders available in cans, this semi-dry cider is made from a blend of bittersweet and bittersharp traditional cider apples grown at the Idyll Acres farm in Oregon's Willamette Valley. This cider is rich in apple character with well-balanced tannins and acidity.Ā

5. Liberty Ciderworks (WA), Wickson Crabapple Single-Varietal Cider (500 mL)Ā  - Made from 100% Wickson Crabapples, a variety introduced in the 1940's in California by famed horticulturist Albert Etter. This cider is semi-dry and bright with notes of grape, pineapple, and lychee, and delicately balanced with notes of honey and light tannins on the finish.Ā

6. South Hill Cider (NY), Bacchus Co-Ferment (750 mL) - This small-batch coferment was made by rehydrating Gewurztraminer wine grape skins with Golden Russet juice and cofermenting them using the wild, ambient yeast from the fruit. Golden Russet apples are one of my absolute favorite varieties for cider, and they play so nicely with this grape. I admit to never having cared for Gewurztraminer wine, so this coferement really surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. It's floral and tropical with nice acidity. It also paired well with spicy pepperoni & sausage pizza.

We ship cider in boxes that safely hold 4-bottles, 6-bottles, or 12-bottles. Order in one of those quantities (or multiples of those quantities) to maximize your shipping value. For example, if you order 2-3 ciders, there will be room left in the box and it won't meaningfully change the shipping costs to fill the box.

We do have 1-bottle boxes, but in most all instances it will cost the same to ship you a full 4-bottle box.

Shipping to a business address will usually save you a few bucks!

Shipping cost estimates:

  • Pacific Northwest/West Coast: Shipping anywhere in the Pacific Northwest or West Coast is relatively inexpensive. Almost all box sizes cost $16-21 to ship. Same is true for most destinations in the Mountain Time Zone.
  • Central Standard Time Zone / Midwest: A 4-bottle or 6-bottle box will usually cost $18-24 to ship. A 12-bottle box will usually cost $22-30 to ship. Variance depends on weight and how far from a FedEx/UPS shipping center your delivery address is.
  • East Coast: A 4-bottle or 6-bottle box will usually cost $20-25 to ship. A 12-bottle box will usually cost $25-35 to ship. Variance depends on weight and how far from a FedEx/UPS shipping center your delivery address is.

Important Shipping Information:

  • We are able to ship cider to most, but not all, states.
  • Legally, someone 21+ must be present at the time of delivery to sign for the cider. We cannot ship to PO Boxes or AFO/FPO addresses.
  • Shipping prices vary by weight and destination.Ā How far you are from Seattle (where we ship from), and remote vs. central your shipping destination is, and how heavy your box is will make shipping vary.
  • The bigger the box, the less you pay in shipping on a per-bottle basis. We ship in 1, 4, 6, and 12 bottle boxes - order in those quantities for the best shipping value. The size of the box matters as much as the weight, so don't leave empty slots in your bottle box!Ā Shipping a 1-2 bottles will cost the same as shipping 4-6 bottles in most cases. Shipping a 12-bottle box is usually only $3-5 more than shipping a 4-6 bottle box.
  • Re-delivery and returns are the responsibility of the customer.
  • We don't recommend shipping during periods of extreme weather. If your area has weather of concern, pleaseĀ contact us and we can hold your order.Ā

We can usually accommodate rush requests for delivery or pickup. Please e-mail us at cider@pressthenpress.com or call/text us at (206)395-4008.

We offer home delivery of cider orders for customers in the Seattle area, including the east-side. Someone 21+ must be available to accept the delivery. We will be flexible in scheduling a delivery that works for you. Most deliveries are made within a few days of the order being placed.

Orders can be picked up for free at Makeda & Mingus, a coffee shop and community space in the Greenwood neighborhood. They are open everyday from 7AM-5PM. Orders are made available for pickup within 1-3 days.
