Small Batch Ciders - In Support of Small Businesses
Press Then Press is a small mom & pop shop (figuratively and literally; our toddler likes to help recycle the cardboard at our office). Both of us have other full time jobs and this cider shop is a side-hustle and labor of love of sorts. Most of the cidermakers we feature in our shop are also very small, family owned and operated businesses. The majority of them have fewer than 5 employees, including themselves, and are often supported by at least one of the family members having another job that props up the cidery. Your support of our business and of their amazing cider means the world to us.
This bundle features some some fun (and delightful!) ciders to try from a few of our favorite small-batch cider producers, including*:
- Wolfkin Cider is perhaps the smallest scale commercial cider operation in the U.S. We can't confirm as much, but we don't know anybody else making commercial cider batches as small as 3 gallons (that's less than 2 cases of bottles) and rarely making a batch larger than 10 gallons. Stephen forages fruit from the greater Seattle area and processes and ferments it all in his single-car garage turned commercial cidery. It's impressive and inspiring. This bundle features Freidrich, an easy-drinking, dry apple cider made with apples foraged from Seattle and the surrounding area
- Empyrical Orchard & Cidery: our friends & neighbors, Adam & Elizabeth, have won the nationally coveted GLINTCAP award for micro-scale Cidermaker of the Year in each of the last two years. (Micro-Scale per GLINTCAP = less than 5,000 gallons produced each year). Beautiful bottles of cider, inside and out. This bundle features Constant, a still cider made from a blend of estate-grown bittersweet and russet apples.
- Alma Cider is just one of the many hats worn by our friend Dave. He's an orchardist and cidermaker, volunteers on the board for the Northwest Cider Association, and has helped many other cideries in Washington State develop their cider orchards (he even helped us graft a dozen trees for our back yard when making a cider delivery one day). Oh, and he's a dad and has a full time job as a nurse. Somehow he finds time to make award winning cider and perry! Pomme Party is featured in this bundle, his newest release - a blend of apple, pear, and quince.
- Mount Diablo from the Bay Area in California is another small-scale, garage based cidery. Thomas makes only a few different ciders each year, but the work he puts into each batch is remarkable - most of his releases to date have all been finished via Method Ancestral, the most labor intensive bottling/finishing process for cidermaking. This bundle features a wild fermented cider made from organic Arkansas Black and Winesap apples from Sebastopol, California.
- RAW Cider Company has been on the market for just a few years now, but our friend Levi is already producing some of our absolute favorite Pacific Northwest cider and perry releases each year. He has honed his skills working at other cideries in the past, before launching RAW in Oregon's Willamette Valley. He most recently opened an orchard based tasting room in 2024. This bundle features Frequin Rouge, an artful blend of french bittersweet apples & Oregon's own Airlie Red redflesh apple.
- Barmann Cellars: Steph and Jesse's first commercial cider and wine releases were in 2023 and they've fast become favorites of ours and of many bottle shops around Seattle. Farmers & fermenters with a passion for low/no intervention ciders and natural wines, made from fruit grown on their estate orchard or sourced nearby in the Nooksack Valley in Northern Washington State. Full of flavor and character (both the ciders and the makers!). Fire in the Hole is a single-varietal Porter's Perfection cider fermented in oak.
