Our Favorite Perry - Classic & Innovative Pear Variety Packs

Our Favorite Perry - Classic & Innovative Pear Variety Packs

Whether you love perry or just getting into them, this is the kit for you! We put these variety packs of perries together so that you can explore various styles of perry from the U.S. and abroad. Each bundle option is curated based on our favorite perry bottles available right now, and two fun themes: classic perry styles, and modern & innovative approaches to perry making.

Perry is mare similarly to cider, but instead of being made from apples, it’s made exclusively from pears. This differs from a Pear Cider, which is a blend of both apples and pears. Perry styles can range from sweeter and fruity to semi-dry and tannic, depending on the pears they are made from. One thing all perries have in common is some level of natural sweetness, due to pears containing sorbitol, which is an unfermentable sugar. While you will notice the sweetness more in a modern-style perry made from eating pears, the sweetness in a traditional cider made from perry pears are typically balanced by tannins. Classic Perry Bundle: A 6-bottle bundle of classic perry styles from France, England, and the U.S. Featured perries include:

  • Little Pomona Table Perry (England): featuring classic U.K. perry varieties, from one of our favorite U.K. cider producers. Perry pears from Herefordshire in West Country region of England famous for their cider and perry.
  • Eric Bordelet Poire Authentic (Normandy, France): Bordelet Ciders and Perries are famed for their high quality and for their classic representation French Cidre and Poire. Poire Authentic is an off-dry, sparkling perry cuvée made from a blend of biodynamically-grown perry pears.
  • Le Pere Jules Poire (Normandy, France): A traditional farmhouse style perry from a classic French Cider producer from Normandy. A blend of perry pears from the heart of one of the most legendary areas for Perry Pear growth in the world.
  • Empyrical Orcard & Cidery - Pyriform (Washington State): In a couple short years, Empyrical has shown a remarkable consistency for producing some of the best American perries we've ever had. Pyriform is an award winning blend of perry pears grown on Empyrical Orchard's South-facing hillside: Theilersbirne, Hendre Huffcap, Yellow Huffcap, and Barland. Partly-wild fermentation tamed with an off-dry champagne bubble.
  • Dragon's Head Perry (Washington State): Perry featuring seedling pears from Vashon Island trees that were likely planted by homesteaders around 100 years ago. Those Vashon pears are blended with estate grown perry pears and Skagit Valley grown heirloom pears, including Hendre Huffcap, Butt, Gin, Yellow Huffcap, and Theilseburn pears. This perry has a subtle sweetness, a delicate pear flavor, and lovely round tannins.
  • Finnriver Farm & Cidery Perry (Washington State): Perry made from a blend of orchard grown and wild grown pears. This bottle celebrates the transformation of potent tannins into a subtle and elegant perry made with homegrown and gleaned wild pears.

Perry With a Twist Bundle: A 6-bottle bundle of perry including unique pear varieties, culinary pears, innovative use of pears in coferments, foraged pears, and a piquette style perry-kin.  Featured perries include:

  • Independent Cider Lavender Dry (Washington State): A perfectly fermented, delicate expression of a classic eating/dessert pear, the D'Anjou. Steeped with a touch of Lavender.
  • Snow Capped Cider Winter Pear (Colorado): Perry made from a blend of D'anjou, Bosc, Comice, and winter pears harvested from high elevation, 70-year-old Colorado pear trees.

  • Barmann Cellars Feral Fox Perry (Washington State): sparkling coferment made using Fox grapes and pears from their orchard. Spontaneously in neutral oak without any additives or filtration - a delightful & fruity perry sure to please natty wine lovers.
  • Jerome Forget Pear Shaped (France): A deviation from his classic French Cider and Perry blends, this pleasantly sparkling cuvée is a blend of apples and pears, cofermented together. More elevated and complex than your typical Pear Cider.
  • Little Pomona Simcoe Pear (England): One of our favorite English Cider makers has a series of Perrykins that are low ABV, tart & juicy delights. Made by rehydrating the crushed pears already used to make perry and pressing out the second batch of "juice" for a ciderkin/piquette style perry. This version is briefly steeped with Simcoe hops after fermentation. CRUSHABLE.

We ship cider in boxes that safely hold 4-bottles, 6-bottles, or 12-bottles. Order in one of those quantities (or multiples of those quantities) to maximize your shipping value. For example, if you order 2-3 ciders, there will be room left in the box and it won't meaningfully change the shipping costs to fill the box.

We do have 1-bottle boxes, but in most all instances it will cost the same to ship you a full 4-bottle box.

Shipping to a business address will usually save you a few bucks!

Shipping cost estimates:

  • Pacific Northwest/West Coast: Shipping anywhere in the Pacific Northwest or West Coast is relatively inexpensive. Almost all box sizes cost $16-21 to ship. Same is true for most destinations in the Mountain Time Zone.
  • Central Standard Time Zone / Midwest: A 4-bottle or 6-bottle box will usually cost $18-24 to ship. A 12-bottle box will usually cost $22-30 to ship. Variance depends on weight and how far from a FedEx/UPS shipping center your delivery address is.
  • East Coast: A 4-bottle or 6-bottle box will usually cost $20-25 to ship. A 12-bottle box will usually cost $25-35 to ship. Variance depends on weight and how far from a FedEx/UPS shipping center your delivery address is.

Important Shipping Information:

  • We are able to ship cider to most, but not all, states.
  • Legally, someone 21+ must be present at the time of delivery to sign for the cider. We cannot ship to PO Boxes or AFO/FPO addresses.
  • Shipping prices vary by weight and destination. How far you are from Seattle (where we ship from), and remote vs. central your shipping destination is, and how heavy your box is will make shipping vary.
  • The bigger the box, the less you pay in shipping on a per-bottle basis. We ship in 1, 4, 6, and 12 bottle boxes - order in those quantities for the best shipping value. The size of the box matters as much as the weight, so don't leave empty slots in your bottle box! Shipping a 1-2 bottles will cost the same as shipping 4-6 bottles in most cases. Shipping a 12-bottle box is usually only $3-5 more than shipping a 4-6 bottle box.
  • Re-delivery and returns are the responsibility of the customer.
  • We don't recommend shipping during periods of extreme weather. If your area has weather of concern, please contact us and we can hold your order.

We can usually accommodate rush requests for delivery or pickup. Please e-mail us at cider@pressthenpress.com or call/text us at (206)395-4008.

We offer home delivery of cider orders for customers in the Seattle area, including the east-side. Someone 21+ must be available to accept the delivery. We will be flexible in scheduling a delivery that works for you. Most deliveries are made within a few days of the order being placed.

Orders can be picked up for free at Makeda & Mingus, a coffee shop and community space in the Greenwood neighborhood. They are open everyday from 7AM-5PM. Orders are made available for pickup within 1-3 days.
